CityScapes

This exhibition is spread throughout the 5 floors of the Novas Contemporary Urban Centre, collating a variety of works such as painting, installation, video, pretty much every type of art you can think of, that explore the cultural dynamics between cities and states.

The most striking and remarkable work I came across was Lemniscates (2008), by Zilvinas Kempinas. This featured a Kinetic sculpture made of a single hoop of magnetic tape suspended by a force of circulating air produced by two fans. It referred to the idea of an “eternal mechanism ”. I was fascinated by this piece purely for aesthetic purposes, I have never seen anything like this before, didn’t even know it was possible!
